Despite all those Hawks Landing, very few birdies made it on the cards today! Really, when you looked at the yardage on the first tee, I’m betting a lot of us thought, what are we doing on a 4200 yard course?! Getting our butts kicked was the answer for many of us! But a few prevailed …..
Welcome back to Margaret Bennett who won the first flight gross. She thanks her approach shots and really thinking about each shot for her winning score. Had a fun day and made the most of a course she felt was really out of her wheelhouse.
Maria Kovalenko won first flight net after tying for first gross. As a long hitter, she too felt the short course made her think more than usual about her shots. She’s been back for a little while from a fairly long break from golf and is happy she’s playing better and not making her usual mistakes. She said she’s not necessarily practicing more, just thinking more!
Tisha Gentry continues to dominate! She had an up and down day with some crazy holes and then some good holes. Since she’s not one to keep track of her ongoing score, she was pleasantly surprised when she saw her total. The course was short, but tricky…fun but frustrating – sounds like the definition of golf!
Rose McCormick won her flight and liked the fact the shorter course let her get to the green in regulation. Her chipping and putting were her best shots. She had a good group and had a good time and will gladly take the wins when they come! Rose is a veteran of OWGA, having been in the club for over 20 years. So, she knows when you play well, there is nothing like celebrating with your foursome after the round – unbelievably the bar was closed! Next time.
Rita West won the fourth flight and credits her bad play over the last few months for her win. You see, Rita went from the third to the fourth flight because her handicap went up! But she will surely be moving up as the season progresses, so we all need to look out because this girl can win.
I also want to mention that several of our winners participated in the FSGA Net Championship tournament this weekend. Tisha came in fourth (tied with Lisa Robinson) in her flight and Rita won hers. And Margaret Bennett participated in a tournament this weekend making it to the finals. Nice playing ladies.
Really though, what’s with a 135 yard par four? You know which hole I’m talking about…Until next time. If you would like any great shot, funny moment, etc. reported in the weekly wrap up, please text Judy Dunlop 407.421.2891.
