Susie Keene wins Handicap Tournament

Susie Keene wins Handicap Tournament2017-10-26T04:22:59+00:00
  •    Over the span of three rounds, Susie Keane beat the odds and consistently shot net par or lower!  One stroke behind in the first round, she was tied for 1st in the second and shot the lowest score of the third round to score 209 total – finishing first by 4 strokes over her nearest competition. The tournament was close this year with ties at the top and many in the running so Susie’s performance was especially impressive. Congrats on winning OWGA’s biggest trophy!

Cheryl Young, Carol Musselwhite, Mary Reynolds and Jae Ha also had a great tournament. Cheryl bounced back in the second round with the lowest net score of the tournament – a 66 at Mission Inn and kept up her stellar play to take 2nd. Carol, the co-medalist, played a steady tournament to tie for third with a hard charging Mary Reynolds and a very consistent Jae Ha! 12 places were paid with an unusual tie for medalist this year between Carol Musselwhite and Judy Dunlop. What a great and fun tournament!

Special thanks to Sarah Shell who ran the tournament, making sure the clubs were ready for us, the rules were clear and accessible and making sure the only drama was the great play on the course! Sarah also had many in the background providing the usual exceptional support……the club reps (Susie Keane, Albertha Hicks and Gigi Roberts), Mary Kozak and Alina Polak for tee sheets and scoring and the clubs themselves! The tournament started with 44 and ended with 39 – many new members participated and everyone had a great time with a lot hanging in at Falcon’s Fire to congratulate the winners.

Put this on your calendar for next season – and get ready for the Team Match Play and the Championship later in the year. The OWGA Majors bring out the best golf in most of us (at least for a few holes) and always provide excitement and surprises.
